Treatment for Arthritis includes:
- Enema: Enema is an injection of fluid into the rectum. This is also known as rectal irrigation. Enema is the process to cleans the colon. A warm water enema is helpful in cleansing the rectum of the accumulated faecal matter. This is the safest system known to the medical world for cleansing the bowels. This also improves the peristaltic movements of the bowels and there by relieves constipation.
- Swedish Massage:
A light massage of medicated ayurvedic herbal oil is very effective. Massage eases the joint movements and is a great relaxant and patients are able to perform physical movements with ease.
- Hot and cold Compress:
Hot and cold compress treatment is recommended by doctors to reduce joint pain. A heat compress relaxes the muscle and stimulates blood flow. In heat therapy a moderately hot moist heating pad or a warm damp towel is used.
- Hot compress: Hot compress relaxes the muscles and stimulates blood flow. Another very easy way of heat therapy is to stand under a warm water shower and let the warm water hit the painful joints, this also eases pain. Lying down in hot tubs relaxes the stiff muscles.
- Cold compress: Cold compress or ice pack applied to the affected are or the flared up joint reduces inflammation and pain.
- Detox Diet: There are various detox cleanses used for different types of arthritis. Water fasting is sometimes prescribed as a way to eliminate toxins. The length of the fast depends on your strength, health, and the season and location. There are also detoxification diets using mainly vegetables, juices, spices, and herbs. These cleanses typically last until the body shows certain signs that the fire is burning strong again. For example, return of appetite, loss of fuzzy white coating on the tongue, and a feeling of lightness all indicate that the cleanse is complete.
- Yoga: Yoga focuses on balance and alignment to improve biomechanical imbalances that create stress on the joints. Yoga movements and mild exercises helps to strengthen the bones and improve the flexibility of the muscles.
- Meditation:

- Janu Basti:

The active ingredients of herbal powders and leaves or rice act directly on the site of knee joint inflammation and reduce pain.
- Pizhichil: Pizhichil or oil squeezing is done to pacify the vata, strengthen muscles and lubricates knee joints.
- Abhyangam: Abhyangam is a full body massage done with medicated herbal oils. This helps in stimulating the nerve endings at the site of pain which increases the blood circulation. Ayurveda believes that the best remedy to pacify vata is by oil application and massaging. Also, oil application lubricates the joints and restores movement.
- Upnaham: This therapy is done by application of herbal paste over the affected area. This treatment is very effective in Arthritis , knee joint injuries and localized Knee Pain and Swelling. It improves circulation, initiates healing and strengthens the musculature.
